What is BlueSky Game Design Challenge?

High school seniors engage in a full-day video game design challenge where they create custom controllers and code original video games before showcasing their work and learning about the BlueSky TN Institute.

Imagine creating your own video game—controller and all—in a single day.

That's BlueSky Game Design Challenge.
For one full day, you'll step into the role of a game designer and developer. You'll:
Design and build a custom game controller using everyday materials
Learn to code an original video game (yes, from scratch!)
Test, play, and iterate your creation
Showcase your game to peers and judges
Tour the BlueSky TN Institute and learn about an accelerated Bachelor's degree program
No coding experience? Perfect. We'll teach you everything you need to know.

Controller Design & Build

What you'll learn:

  • Design thinking and prototyping

1:00 PM

Game Development Sprint

What happens:

  • Design your original game concept

  • Code game mechanics

  • Integrate your custom controller

  • Playtest and iterate

Game Showcase

What happens:

  • Set up your game station

  • Other teams play your game

  • You play other teams' games

  • Judges (industry professionals) provide feedback
